- What issues and ideas are you passionate about?
- Do you have a story you want to tell?
- Ever thought of doing a radio program?
The Youth Voices Radio Project is a program for teens ages 14-18 who are interested in discovering the meaning of their relationship to their community and learning how to use radio to inform, educate and entertain.
KVMR is a community based, listener supported radio station with a 29-year track record giving voice to the community through music, news and public affairs programming.
With generous support from the Truckee Tahoe Community Foundation, KVMR is very proud to offer this special program to the teens of the Truckee Tahoe region
Youth Voices Project Structure
The training program will consist of a six week workshop series that will meet twice weekly from July to August 2007. The workshops will be located at the Truckee Teen Center. To ensure hands-on broadcasting experience, some sessions may take place in Nevada City at the broadcasting studios of KVMR Radio. Participants will learn to develop and research stories, tape-record interviews, structure and write radio scripts and use computers to edit and produce polished stories.
The final result of the project will be three one hour radio programs covering issues of civic importance to youth in the Truckee Tahoe region that reach beyond the local community to resonate with youth experience across the country. The programs will be aired on KVMR, Podcasts will be available through the KVMR website with a specially constructed youth area and made available for national distribution through public radio outlets.

Then, you will learn how to turn those ideas into stories told through the audio medium of radio and finally, learn production techniques for creating a professional, polished radio program worthy of airplay and national distribution.
