Steve returns to the blues, where it all began for him on KVMR. He left the genre in 1999, but didn’t venture too far. He created "New Soul Revival" to celebrate the contemporary soul, funk and R&B music that has been neglected on the airwaves, and hosted the weekly show with partner Mickey Traina for two years. After a five-month hiatus, Steve is happy to be back in the KVMR family.

Steve traces his love for African-American music back to his West Tennessee childhood, where he spent hours listening on his transistor radio to the soul tunes coming out of Nashville and nearby Memphis. Big names such as James Brown and His Fabulous Flames and the Ike and Tina Turner Review came to Steve's hometown of Jackson.

Steve credits his parents -- both of whom worked for public schools -- for influencing his appreciation for social and cultural diversity. He graduated from Memphis State University and met his wife, Mindy, while in Tucson, Arizona. The couple lived in Chicago for nearly 15 years, where Steve's love of blues was nurtured at neighborhood clubs. Upon moving to Sacramento in 1996, Steve immediately discovered KVMR and within a year he was a broadcaster.

While cutting his radio teeth primarily on blues shows, Steve has gone on to host many programs ranging from reggae to classical. Steve has produced both regular and special programs on KVMR. He is proud of being involved for the past three years with KVMR’s Martin Luther King Day celebrations.

Having made many music contacts through his radio work, Steve has written liner notes for recent recordings by Mary Taylor, Denise LaSalle and Destini Rawls. He plans to continue expanding his writing career within the music industry.
