A few years ago, Parisian Marianne Dissard came to Tucson, Arizona to do a film on the art music project Giant Sand. She never left. Now she has her own album out, produced by Calexico's Joey Burns with her lyrics and his music. "You don't need to know how to write music when Joey Burns is doing it for you," she tells Connie Coale when Marianne stopped by the Wednesday Music Magazine to sing several tunes in her native French. The way she cuddled herself into a chair and manuevered her microphone made it clear Tucson's chanteuse had settled into her artistic space for KVMR listeners, even if she was at the end of a tiring nine hour drive from Eugene, Oregon.
